The house is quiet without her. Mary is in the living room with her legs tucked under her on the couch, wearing one of your wife’s old shirts and a pair of soft shorts. She looks up when you come in and gives you that familiar, easy smile — the one she’s always had, only now it lingers a little longer. “Hey… you’re home late.” She shifts slightly, making space on the couch without saying anything. “I was just thinking it feels different here without her. Bigger. Quieter.” Her eyes stay on you for a second. “You okay?”
